Highlands and Islands Training Programme

The Highlands and Islands Training Programme seeks to develop new talent and grow the depth and expertise of talent working in the Film and TV industry across the Highlands and Islands. 

About 

In 2022, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (Western Isles Council), MG ALBA and Screen Scotland developed and delivered a new Training Programme at Studio Alba, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis. 

Since then, the training programme has expanded its reach to grow the depth and expertise of talent working in the Film and TV industry across the Highlands and Islands.

2024 marks its third iteration, with MG ALBA, in partnership with Screen Scotland and the BFI Skills Cluster Fund, offering the following to six successful candidates:

  • Up to six months of paid full-time on the job training on work placements across various Gaelic and English language productions in TV/FILM scripted, factual programming and other projects within the creative digital media sectors
  • A programme of short induction courses with BECTU Vision
  • Tailored support and guidance throughout for each trainee.

Trainees will be working with, and learning from, industry professionals as part of a team, gaining on the job experience in a real working environment.

Traineeships will commence from 15 or 22 April 2024 for 6 months and are offered to applicants not in full-time education.
