Valhalla Rising Set to Hit Cinema Screens ( 23/04/2010 )

The Scottish co-production Valhalla Rising is set to hit cinema screens throughout the UK on the 30 April 2010. The 3.7 million feature was shot entirely in Scotland and stars Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale), Maarten Stevenson, Gary Lewis, Jamie Sives, Sandy Morton and Ewan Stewart. The film was co-produced by Glasgow-based La Belle Allee Productions and Denmark's/ Nimbus Film Productions and will be released in the UK by Vertigo.

Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Bronson), the movie tells the mythical story of a mute warrior and his instinctive search for a spiritual home - wherever that may be.

Valhalla Rising was selected to screen at Venice Film Festival 2009, Toronto International Film Festival 2009, London Film Festival 2009, and International Film Festival Rotterdam 2010.

Carole Sheridan, Head of Talent and Creativity at Scottish Screen said:
"An extraordinary film that is both tantalising and fantastic. Nicholas Winding Refn is an international talent and Scottish Screen is delighted to have been involved in developing his canon of work along with Scottish producer Karen Smyth of La Belle Allee."

"The most significant British co-production in recent years", Sight & Sound Magazine.

"A dream of a Viking movie....Valhalla gets into your mind and stays there", Empire Magazine.
