Scottish animation company winner at Mobifest Toronto 2008 ( 28/11/2008 )

Binary Fable's About Here: Culross Abbey was selected as Best Animation at Mobifest Toronto 2008 last week. Mobifest is the international film festival for made-for-mobile films.
About Here: Culross Abbey was the only UK entry to win an award, beating competition from around the world. The film tells the legend of sixth-century Princess Thenaw. Thenaw survived two death sentences to give birth to Saint Mungo - the patron saint of Glasgow - in Culross. However, despite her miraculous escape, her fame has been eclipsed by that of her son.
The film was one of two commissioned from Binary Fable by Pocket Shorts Scotland in January 2008 - the fledgling company's first commission. The films were launched at an event at this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival in June and both were selected as finalists for Mobifest Toronto 08.
Helen Jackson, animator and director at Binary Fable, said of the win: "We were delighted that these two films were selected for Mobifest, and honoured that About Here: Culross Abbey won Best Animation. Binary Fable's first year has been a great success and we plan to continue to produce innovative, award-winning animation here in Edinburgh."
Pocket Shorts Scotland is funded by Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Screen and NESTA.
