EDUCATION FOR THE SCREEN AGE

Screens are the everyday currency of communications. From mobile phones and computers to television and movies, screen culture dominates modern culture. Despite this moving image education remains largely under-developed in Scotland's schools curriculum and other educational contexts.

We are working to change that. Scottish Screen aims to ensure that people of all ages and backgrounds are inspired and equipped to analyse, appreciate, explore, create and share screen media.

Our goals are to see moving image education articulated in the schools curriculum 3-18, and to widen the accepted definition of literacy to include media literacy as standard. To achieve this, we are supporting and evaluating a range of strategic initiatives to develop good practice, and to show the enormous benefits that moving image education can bring to learners - and teachers.
