Cultural Cinema Hubs

Scottish Screen has created a network of Cultural Cinema Hubs and invested £750,000 per annum into the best and most accessible cinema provision.

Cinema Hubs are films exhibitors in Scotland who show excellence and expertise in film programming and screenings for the general public. They are each capable of ensuring that the widest range of films reaches and is appreciated by a diverse audience.

Each of the hubs will establish a Scottish-wide network of film exhibitors who will share their experience in film provision so the same standard can permeate to all corners of Scotland. A representative from each Hub will also become a member of the Board of Regional Screen Scotland, the new agency focused on film provision for Scotland

Other responsibilities of the Cultural Cinema Hubs include a commitment to supporting other exhibition venues and events in doing what they each do best, for example, awardees such as the EIFF will support other Scottish based festivals, and Dundee Contemporary Arts will support other initiatives dedicated to children and young audiences.

Scottish Screen will also be a hub with a focus on advocacy and research which will be used to support the wider network.

The Cultural Cinema Hub concept grew from Scottish Screen’s Cinema Exhibition Strategy, which aims to ensure Scottish audiences are best served by way of cinema provision and access to the films they wish to see.

The Cultural Cinema Hubs are:

Edinburgh International Film Festival

Dundee Contemporary Arts

Eden Court

Glasgow Film Theatre

Filmhouse, Edinburgh
