Edinburgh Skillset Screen and Media Academy

Edinburgh's Skillset Screen and Media Academy is a collaboration between Scotland's leading screen practice educators - Napier University and Edinburgh College of Art (eca). The Academy aims to provide professionally oriented, project-based and practice-led film education and training delivered in partnership with the screen industry and which is accessible, flexible and promotes diversity.

The Academy is backed by Skillset, the UK Film Council Lottery Fund, the Scottish Government, Scottish Screen, stv and BBC Scotland and is designated as a UK centre of excellence in film practice education by Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Audio-visual Industry.

The Academy brings together Napier University and eca's postgraduate degree programmes in directing, producing, screenwriting and animation to which additional programmes will be added in the coming years. It offers a growing range of short course and continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities to people entering or already working in the screen industry.

The Academy is committed to working closely with the industry, public agencies and other higher and further education institutions and others involved in the art, craft and business of filmmaking. In doing so it aims to extend the range of education, training and development opportunities available to both new and existing practitioners. This includes extending the range and quality of practice teaching, improving access to skills and increasing diversity across education and industry.
