Scottish Screen want Scottish audiences to have the best possible cinema experience and this extends to cinemagoers with sensory impairments.
Scottish Screen and the Scottish Arts Council have invested almost £80,000 for the installation of audio-description and captioning equipment in cinemas throughout Scotland, giving greater access to films for people with sensory impairments.
Our Cinema Access Equipment Investment Fund links into similar programmes in England, Wales and Northern Ireland in a UK-wide aim to increase access to all types of film for those with sensory impairments. Our arrangments have been implemented with the full support and encouragement of the RNID, RNIB, cinema operators, distributors and the UK Film Council.
